Industrial equipment is specified rather than chosen. Somebody has a requirement, a set of constraints and an existing installation to fit, and their search is a verification exercise. Most equipment sites are built as brochures for a browsing buyer who does not exist.
What the buyer is actually doing
Checking. Does this model meet the duty point, fit the footprint, match the connection, carry the certification, and can it be delivered when needed. Every one of those is a specific question with a specific answer.
Which means the highest-value content is data, not persuasion. A page that answers the specification question wins over a page that describes the company's commitment to quality, every time.
The specification data is the marketing
It is what gets searched, and because publishing it removes a step from the buyer's process. A specification behind a download form is a specification a competitor is happy to publish openly.
It also happens to be exactly what machines read. Structured specification data is how you appear in comparisons assembled by an assistant, and how automated systems evaluating options can consider you at all.

The cross-reference opportunity
The last row is the most underused asset in this segment. Buyers search competitor part numbers constantly, looking for an equivalent, a replacement or something available sooner. A page that honestly maps your equivalent to that part number captures demand at the exact moment it exists.
It has to be accurate. A cross-reference that overstates equivalence produces returns, arguments and a reputation problem that outlasts the traffic.
Configurators
Worth building when the range is genuinely configurable and the rules are known, because it removes a back-and-forth that currently costs your engineers hours. Worth avoiding when the rules require judgement, because a configurator that returns wrong answers is worse than a phone number. That decision is web application territory.

Frequently asked questions
Our specifications are in PDF datasheets. Is that a problem?
Yes, and it is the most common one in this segment. A PDF is hard to read on a phone, awkward for engines to extract from, and invisible to most assistants. The data should be on the page, with the PDF alongside for people who want to file it.
We sell through distributors. Does our own site matter?
It matters more, not less. The specifier researches before contacting anyone, and if your site does not answer the technical question they will specify whichever manufacturer's did. Your distributors then sell that product.
Should we publish pricing?
Rarely necessary in configured equipment, and lead time usually matters more anyway. Publishing an indicative range does filter out buyers who were never going to reach your price, which is worth something.
